Cultivating the artist’s unique voice is at the heart of what we do. Our development strategy will always cater to exactly what the individual artist needs to express his/her vision to its fullest potential. No exceptions.
Who We Are
Criminal Theatre creates theatrical experiences that articulate the original vision of the artist in its purest form. We believe that the individual artist’s voice is unique and valuable to the growth of our cultural landscape. We take a holistic approach that involves designers in the conversation at the earliest opportunity. We create an environment that enhances creative autonomy, respect for all and is wholly inclusive. We are committed to a rigorous and detailed relationship to the work whatever the process may be. Artists are given license to explore and imagine all that could be possible with their project and are supported as they prepare the work to be shared with other companies and collaborators. Criminal Theatre encourages collaborations, co-productions, community presentations and all opportunities that allow the individual artist to grow.
Criminal History
Founded in 2012 when Rosa Labordé and Scott McCord discovered a mutual enthusiasm to make art they believe in while nourishing their creative autonomy. Both veterans of the Canadian Theatre scene who have often worn many hats – Rosa as an award-winning playwright, actress and director and Scott as an award-winning actor and musician – they decided it was time to pool their talents in a company built expressly to support artists to develop artistic autonomy and ownership over their craft.
